We almost feel like it’s our civic duty to help promote Ian Somerhalder’s (Damon) latest philanthropic venture (whatever it may be). We mean, let’s face it: The guy is entertaining like whoa, and we kind of owe him for all the awesomeness he brings into our lives. Helping him save the world is the least we can do for that hour’s worth of pure sexiness we see on TV every week. Really.
Right now, Ian is pretty disturbed by the story of an incarcerated 5-year-old American bulldog in Belfast (and we bet you will be, too). The poor dog, Lennox, has literally been imprisoned in a cement cell for 10 months, with no physical contact or medical help. And if that doesn’t make you misty-eyed, it gets worse. Lennox was taken from the home of Caroline Barnes, whose 11-year-old disabled daughter relies on the dog for emotional comfort. She loves him to pieces. He’s part of the family!
So why all the hoopla over a therapy dog? Well, the Belfast City Council labeled the pooch an “American pitbull type terrier” — after a 20-second examination with a tape measure, mind you — and therefore, because they (like some others), think all pit bulls are dangerous, they want him dead. Outraged by the decision to put this obviously docile dog to death, Ian tweeted the following out to his 600,000+ followers yesterday, begging for a little help for man’s best (European) friend:
5yo American Bull dog x & @belfastcc want him dead b/cos of how he looks please help him http://www.savelennox.co.uk PLS RT...There is NO sense in killing this amazing animal who is a member of a family-someone please...please fix this...@belfastcc PS if you refuse to allow the family to have their dog back then at least allow someone able to care for him
The council was scheduled to make a final decision about Lennox today at 10:30 a.m. Belfast time. We don’t know the verdict yet, but we’re really hoping the little tailwagger is granted amnesty. In the meantime, why not get in a few last minute complaint tweets (@belfastcc) or e-mails (complaints@belfastcity.gov.uk)? Here’s hoping they throw this dog a major bone!sursa
